Mexico City, March 30, 2025 – Former UFC flyweight champion Brandon Moreno triumphed over Steve Erceg with a unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night in Mexico City. Throughout the five-round battle, the 31-year-old Mexican displayed clear superiority, marking his second consecutive victory since returning from a short hiatus.

The judges handed Moreno a 49-46 win, with Moreno outstriking Erceg 82-67, highlighting his advanced technique and strategic capability. Moreno effectively used a lead overhand right and a precise left hook, keeping Erceg from gaining ground, as Erceg managed only a 27% strike accuracy.

Moreno’s Return to Form

This success adds to Moreno’s momentum following a brief departure from the octagon after a split decision loss to Alexandre Pantoja in 2023. His sharpness was evident in his performance against Erceg, building on his earlier decisive win over Amir Albazi.

Moreno wasted no time leveraging this victory, issuing a public request for a match at the recently announced UFC Noche event in Guadalajara come September. With his ambition clearly mapped out, he seeks a grander stage for his impressive talents.

Looking Ahead: UFC Noche and Beyond

Moreno intends to take advantage of his current path. Directly addressing UFC executive Hunter Campbell, he emphasized his ability to draw crowds and significantly influence the success of the Guadalajara-hosted event.

Though he hasn’t officially challenged for the title, Moreno’s performances suggest he’s a strong contender in the division, despite an unofficial 0-3 standing against Pantoja, which includes a defeat on “The Ultimate Fighter” reality series.

Steve Erceg, having recently attempted a close run against Pantoja for the title earlier this year, recognized the challenge Moreno posed. Erceg remains hopeful about refining his skills for future bouts.

On the same night, another competitor, 20-year-old Mexican Raul Rosas Jr., continued his impressive rise in UFC rankings with a victory over Vince Morales. This marked his fifth UFC win, further enhancing Mexican presence in the organization.

Moreno’s path reflects a determined push for another championship chance, with the September event serving as a potential proving ground before a hometown audience and an international MMA audience.
